Ikechukwu Onuorah named Director of The Orchard, Nigeria | Music Business Worldwide

Ikechukwu Onuorah has been hired as Director of The Orchard, Nigeria.

He joined the Nigerian division of the Sony Music-owned distribution and services company in December 2019, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Onuorah was previously Vice President of AMAN – the Artist Managers’ Association in Nigeria.

The news of Onuorah’s appointment comes after Sony implemented big changes to its leadership team in West Africa last year.

Michael Ugwu stepped down from the position of General Manager for Sony Music West Africa at the end of July.

Taking up the position vacated by Ugwu was Oluwaseun ‘Banko’ Lloyd, an associate of US-born, Nigerian star Davido – and the former President of Davido Music Worldwide.

Banko now heads up Sony Music Entertainment West Africa as Artist and Business Development Manager, and reports to Sean Watson, MD, Sony Music Entertainment Africa.

Sony Music has made a number of key moves in the region over the last three years:

It originally opened an office in Lagos, Nigeria in 2016 to serve as the new hub of its on-the-ground operations in West Africa.

The major then signed a licensing a deal with the Africa consumer base-focused streaming and download music app Boomplay in November, becoming the third major to do so, following licensing deals with Universal Music Group (announced in November 2018) and Warner Music Group (March 2019).Music Business Worldwide
