Republic Records hires Mel Carter as Senior Vice President of A&R | Music Business Worldwide

Republic Records has appointed Mel Carter as Senior Vice President of A&R.

The news was announced today by EVP Rob Stevenson.

In his new role, Carter will scout, sign, and foster new talent for the Republic roster.

Additionally, he will continue to oversee the current roster on his imprint, Hikari Ultra, under its joint venture with Republic.

In 2018, the executive entered the fold as a consultant for the company and eventually aligned Hikari Ultra with Republic, providing a launchpad for the rapid rise of City Morgue and Cee Kay.

Carter joined Republic Records as an A&R Consultant during 2018. This opportunity granted him and his business partner and co-founder, Righteous P, a joint venture for their independent label, Hikari Ultra.

Prior, he spent ten years facilitating deals throughout the industry, including signing Jovanie to Atlantic Records and making history as he became the label’s youngest artist ever at the time. Additionally, he has the distinction of being mentioned in Daymond John’s best-selling book, The Power of Broke.

“Mel has proven himself to be a true disruptor. We are grateful he has decided to join our team in an expanded role.”
