BPI backs MBW’s UK-focused A&R Awards, as event sells out (again) | Music Business Worldwide

The BPI, the trade body representing major and independent labels in the UK, has thrown its weight behind next month’s A&R Awards by sponsoring two of the most prestigious categories.

Entirely appropriately, it has elected to back the Major and Independent Label Awards, both recognising the efforts of in-house teams to break new artists, deliver great content and develop careers.

The UK-focused A&R Awards, presented by MBW in association with Abbey Road Studios, will take place at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London on the evening of Tuesday, November 5.

The ceremony has now completely (as in, completely) sold out, for the fourth year in a row.

“Our industry is transforming rapidly, but what never changes is the central importance of the artist, and the role of A&R as the foundation of the relationship between artist and record label.”

Geoff Taylor, BPI

Geoff Taylor, Chief Executive BPI & BRIT Award, said: “Our industry is transforming rapidly, but what never changes is the central importance of the artist, and the role of A&R as the foundation of the relationship between artist and record label.

“That partnership is essential to the success of British music and so the BPI is delighted to sponsor the Independent Label & Major Label of the Year Awards, to celebrate excellence in this field.”

The finalists in the two categories are:

  • Dirty Hit
  • Domino
  • Glassnote
  • Neighbourhood
