Radio platform Stationhead, which counts Kevin Liles & Downtown as investors, adds on-demand content | Music Business Worldwide

New York-based social radio platform Stationhead now lets users record their shows, launching what it describes as “an entirely new medium of shareable, on-demand, binge-able audio content”.

The DIY platform lets anyone create their own radio station and connect over interactive audio content with live talk, guest callers and messaging.

The new on demand feature is powered by Stationhead’s ONcast technology.

More than 200,000 shows have been created by hosts on the platform since it launched in November 2018.

Unlike traditional radio, where a single broadcast is sent out to all listeners, Stationhead is integrated with Spotify and Apple Music so every listener counts as an individual paid stream for every song played.

Because of the Spotify and Apple Music integrations, Stationhead says that its hosts don’t need to acquire licenses to any songs before adding them in full for their listeners.

The company claims that some artists have seen more than a 100% increase in streams through its platform.

“Stationhead has built a social network on top of our business model. That’s very exciting to me.”

Lee, President/Co-founder of 300 Entertainment Kevin Liles, President and CEO of Arista Records David Massey, and Round Hill Music Publishing.

Stationhead’s partners include 300 Entertainment, GOOD Music, and Roc Nation’s EQ Distro, who have all created shows and events for Stationhead listeners, hosts, and artists.

Advisors include Raekwon, Aaron Schildkrout, and Stevie Van Zandt.

“This new medium has a way of tearing down the walls to reveal our truest most authentic selves to each other.”

“As an artist, I know first hand the value of these music streaming platforms,” said Ryan Star, CEO and co-founder of Stationhead.

“That’s why Stationhead was designed to get more people streaming and more people connecting around streaming.

“We believe that by allowing people to share their stories through voice and music, we can help people feel connected to each other and positively impact the world around us.

“In the midst of an audio revolution driven by podcasting, music streaming, and smart speakers, Stationhead is the only social platform built for it all.”
