Taylor Swift’s Lover tops one million album sale equivalents in China – breaking international record | Music Business Worldwide

Taylor Swift has officially set a new record for an international artist in China with the release of her multi-platinum album Lover.

It’s just been confirmed by Universal Music Group that Lover has become China’s most-consumed international full-length album of 2019.

In fact, the LP – which is on course to hit No.1 in multiple territories worldwide today (August 30) – has set a new record by an international artist for first week full-length album consumption… more than doubling the previous record.

In total, says UMG, Lover has topped over a million equivalent units – taking into account both streaming and sales – in China since being released last Friday (August 23)

Lover is the first album on which Swift controls her own masters – unlike her six previous albums, which were all released by Big Machine.

The new LP is being released globally Universal Music Group, and its Republic Records division in the U.S.

Swift’s two previous studio albums, 1989 and reputation were also both certified for more than 1 million albums consumed in China, although not in as short a time frame as Lover.Music Business Worldwide
