Merck Mercuriadis buys again, as Hipgnosis snaps up Giorgio Tuinfort catalog | Music Business Worldwide

Hipgnosis Songs Fund Limited, the publicly-traded UK company set up by veteran artist manager Merck Mercuriadis, has acquired another catalog from a songwriter.

This time, it’s the repertoire of multiple Grammy winner Giorgio Tuinfort, who has written 23 No.1 singles and has won the prestigious BMI Songwriter Award 30 times.

Hipgnosis has acquired 100% of Giorgio Tuinfort’s interest in the catalogue, which is comprised of 182 songs in total.

The set includes more than 15 UK Top 10 singles performed by David Guetta (pictured), including 6 number No.1s.

In addition to David Guetta, the catalog includes songs written for Gwen Stefani, Sia, Emeli Sandé, Nicki Minaj, Afrojack, Martin Garrix, Rihanna, Avicii, Usher, Will.i.am, Akon and Lionel Richie.

“Giorgio is arguably the most underrated hit songwriter of the last 20 years.”

Merck Mercuriadis, Founder of The Family (Music) Limited and Hipgnosis Songs Fund Limited, said: “Giorgio is arguably the most underrated hit songwriter of the last 20 years.

“He could just as easily be composing a piano concerto as co-writing magnificent pop like “The Sweet Escape” for Gwen Stefani or “One Last Time” for Ariana Grande. He has quietly been the partner of choice for everyone from Akon to David Guetta and has been instrumental, literally, in their incredible successes. For me “Titanium” is as sophisticated as pop can get. Giorgio’s work is sublime.”

Giorgio Tuinfort, said: “To entrust someone with your musical life work is like entrusting someone with your child; only a person with integrity and high values can bear that responsibility. That’s Merck to me. A visionary, but most of all a man who recognises the value of one of mankind’s greatest gifts; music. My catalogue is simply in the best hands it could be.”

Hipgnosis made a string of acquisitions after floating on the London Stock Exchange last year, including interest in catalogs from Chic co-founder Bernard Edwards, songwriter Jason Boyd (aka Poo Bear), British songwriting and music production team TMS, and a 75% stake in the catalog of The-Dream.Music Business Worldwide
