Global bets on podcasts to get brands to invest in audio advertising | Music Business Worldwide


UK Media & Entertainment group Global has ‘stormed’ into the podcasting business, adding a catalog of 1,500 ‘premium’ podcasts to its Global Player app.

Global is the home of radio brands including Heart, Capital, Smooth, Classic FM, Radio X, LBC, Capital XTRA and Gold.

In what the firm describes as a ‘strategic move’, the podcasts added come from variety of publishers, including the BBC.

According to Global, the move ‘creates opportunities for brands to invest in digital audio advertising’ via Global’s digital audio advertising platform, DAX, (which recently extended a deal to be SoundCloud’s exclusive sales partner in the UK).

Curated by ‘audio industry experts’ at Global, the new section features hit podcasts such as Serial, Stuff You Should Know alongside original podcasts produced by Global – Global Original podcasts – such as The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, Ellie And Anna Have Issues and a library of historical LBC programming.

Podcasts can be streamed or downloaded for offline listening.

The app also provides updates on popular artists, as well as news, updates and information about music events.

This is the first significant update to the Global Player since its launch and Global will roll out further developments in the coming months and years.

The new podcast feature is currently available on the IOS apps, with Android following in early 2019.
