Concord Music’s Craft Recordings has promoted Michele Smith to the newly created position of Vice President, Estate and Legacy Brand Management
Reporting to label president Sig Sigworth, Smith will work with Craft Recordings, theatrical properties represented by Concord Music as well as the company’s Film & TV, Direct-to-consumer and Publishing areas.
The aim of the role is to drive revenue growth by maximizing the label’s existing assets, exploiting ancillary rights and creating additional enterprise opportunities across multiple channels for Concord Music’s repertoire.
Smith is one of the torchbearers for Stax Records, which Concord Music acquired as part of its purchase of Fantasy Recordings in 2004.
In her new role, she will continue to be the main point person for all Stax brand initiatives including musicals, documentaries, merchandise, live events and more, while continuing her position on the Soulsville Foundation Board of Directors.
She will also be responsible for leading Concord Music’s Estate Management business, which presently includes the Billie Holiday and Tammy Wynette estates through film, merchandise, licensing, direct-to-consumer and other initiatives.
In addition to the above tasks, Smith will facilitate the licensing of owned art assets for merchandise exploitation.
“I am honored to work with Sig and the Craft team on this new endeavor.”
“It is exciting to be able to create new opportunities for the legendary Stax brand as well as to work with the estates of the musical trailblazers who have entrusted us with their legacies,” stated Smith.
“I am honored to work with Sig and the Craft team on this new endeavor and look forward to the personal growth and unique experiences that will come along with it.”
“I am thrilled to have her join the Craft Recordings team.”
Sig Sigworth added: “I have had the pleasure of working closely with Michele in three different companies over our careers and know her to be a smart, creative and dedicated music executive.
