Matador makes key US and UK hires | Music Business Worldwide


Matador Records has made two key hires in London and New York, announcing Alex Keague-Davies as its new UK General Manager and Jake Whitener as Director of A&R in the US.

Keague-Davies takes over from Natalie Judge, who is stepping down at the end of this month after eleven years at the independent label.

Whitener takes over from Robby Morris who joined Secretly Group in April.

Alongside his previous job as a publicist at Big Hassle Media, Whitener is the founder of two small labels Mock Records and Unsatisfied Records, and DIY music festival Unscene Fest in Los Angeles.

He has managed artists that have signed to labels such as Saddle Creek and Partisan, and has experience at Capitol Records and Red Light Management, as well as Beggars Group / Matador Records, where he interned in 2011.

Keague-Davies joins from [PIAS], where she’s spent recent years leading global campaigns for various labels.

Working with in-house imprints such as [PIAS] Recordings & Play It Again Sam, she’s also worked alongside labels such as Ipecac and Partisan, overseeing campaigns for artists including Faith No More, Matt Simons, and Cigarettes After Sex.

Keague-Davies said:, “I’m very excited to be joining the Matador team.

Judge was promoted to GM in 2015, and has been instrumental in the success of artsits including Savages, Belle & Sebastian and Queens of the Stone Age in the UK.
