Things To Consider When Creating Your Band's Website | Music Think Tank

These days, it’s impossible to get by as a musician without a great web presence. Of course, one of the most effective ways to manage this will be with your own website where you can quickly send anyone who’s interested in learning more about you, finding merch, streaming your music, or booking you for your next gig. Sure, you can probably get by with a Facebook profile and a Bandcamp page, but an attractive website hosted on a domain that you own will make you appear more professional than most other new bands in your area.

Here are a few important aspects to consider when creating your band’s website.

Booking Page

This seems like a no-brainer, but surprisingly, lots of musicians seem to ignore the reliability of hosting a simple web form on their web site. Sure, a lot of promoters might perfer to reach out via email or send you a Facebook message, but a dedicated web form page will help increase your leads. If someone can send you a message directly from your site without having to log in to their email or navigate to your Facebook page, it makes it that much easier to get in touch with you.

Music Stream

This is, of course, essentially the entire reason for your existence, right? There are tons of options for this. I like Bandcamp the most, it’s dead simple, reliable and millions of artists are already using it. You can even host it as part of your own domain

Meet The Band

Aside from your music, promoters want to know the people behind it. Creating an exceptional About Us page complete with professional pictures and brief descriptions of your passions and goals can help humanize your band. You’ll be surprised at how well this helps you make valuable friends.

Press Page

Has your band recently gotten shared on music blogs, or even in the news? It’s not a bad idea to list these things on a dedicated page of your site to let everyone know you’re serious about what you’re doing and that others have already recognized you. You might even want to list notable artists you’ve played shows with or opened up for.

Social Media

It probably goes without saying that you should list other places people can get in touch with your band, follow your endeavors and engage with you. In fact, being able to create a corner of the internet where you list all of these things in one place is one of the most beneficial aspects of owning your own website.

Merch Page

There are tons of ecommerce solutions to help you sell your merch, but my personal favorite is Big Cartel. Just like bandcamp, you can even use them with your own domain.
