Big Deal’s Kenny MacPherson elected to NMPA Board of Directors | Music Business Worldwide


Big Deal Music Group founder Kenny MacPherson has been elected to the National Music Publishers Association’s Board of Directors.

As the President of Big Deal, MacPherson oversees all operations from their headquarters in Los Angeles including offices in New York, Nashville and London.

“We are extremely pleased to have Kenny MacPherson on our board,” said NMPA Board Chairman Irwin Robinson.

“As a trailblazer in the music industry with incredible experience and a hugely respected and expanding company, Kenny will be an invaluable addition.”

Prior to forming Big Deal Music Group, MacPherson served as President and Senior Executive of Chrysalis Music Division North America, which he joined in 2001.

His team went on to sign acts such as Ray LaMontagne, My Morning Jacket, OutKast, TV on the Radio, St. Vincent, Afghan Whigs, Thom Yorke and Dan Wilson – plus producers such as Joe Henry, Ethan Johns, Daniel Lanois and Dave Sitek.

MacPherson continued to head Chrysalis N.A. until the parent company was bought by BMG in late 2010.

Israelite added, “Kenny’s rapid growth of Big Deal is a testament to his skill at finding and shepherding talent. His history as a songwriter advocate and business innovator will be a huge asset to us as we work to improve the music licensing landscape so companies like his can thrive.”

MacPherson said: “I am honored to have been elected to serve alongside my peers at the NMPA.

MacPherson got his start in music publishing in the early 80s, forming Redhead Music Publishing a venture between Rondor music and Mismanagement, the company that managed Supertramp and other stars.

In 1989, he went to Warner/Chappell, running the company’s New York offices, later moving to the company’s Los Angeles headquarters.

During his 13 years at WCM, MacPherson signed such prestigious artists as Radiohead, Underworld, Paul Westerberg, Afghan Whigs, BRMC and the Blue Nile.Music Business Worldwide
