Independent record label 3 Beat has renewed its joint venture with Universal Music UK with a new multi-year agreement.
Prior to this latest renewal, the two companies have worked together since 2010.
3 Beat has produced a long list of gold and platinum records under the JV, particularly in the dance and grime genres, with what are now big names in music such as Sigma (pictured), Martin Jensen, Kungs, Philip George, Skepta, and Fuse ODG.
“This new agreement is a result of our ambition to sign a wider range of artists. We want genuine, international, breakthrough moments”
Jon Barlow, 3 Beat
3 Beat founder Jon Barlow said: “Renewing our deal with Universal was such an easy decision because we work incredibly well together, as is evident in the level of success we’ve had to date. The new JV continues to allow 3 Beat to operate autonomously as an independent whilst being able to plug into some of Universal’s key departments and infrastructure to give us real clout.”
“This new deal will give us an opportunity to vastly improve on our achievements so far. The new multi-year agreement is a result of our ambition to sign a wider range of artists. We want genuine, international, breakthrough moments – and to develop them fully, which takes time in the modern music business.”
Universal Music UK chairman David Joseph said: “Jon has exceptional A&R instincts and is very obviously on his way to building 3 Beat into a label with a lasting legacy. He is fiercely independent and the beauty of our deal is that he can tap into us how and when he needs to, both in the UK and globally.”Music Business Worldwide
