Warner/Chappell Music CEO & Chairman Jon Platt has paid tribute to the company’s songwriters following a string of award wins for the publisher and its clients.
Earlier this month, the firm was named Pop Publisher of the Year by BMI, at a ceremony where Justin Tranter and Ross Golan were named Songwriters Of The Year.
Then, at the Ivor Novellos in London on Thursday (May 18), Warner/Chappell signing Skepta won Songwriter of the Year and Best Contemporary Song for “Man”.
Meanwhile, fellow W/C signing Michael Kiwanuka won Best Song Musically & Lyrically with “Black Man in a White World” at the Ivors – as Dario Marianelli won Best Original Film Score with Kubo and the Two Strings.
Jon Platt, Chairman & CEO of Warner/Chappell, said: “Skepta is a groundbreaking songwriter, and we’re thrilled to see his exceptional talent acknowledged with two of The Ivors’ biggest honors.
“This is a great moment for Amber Davis, the A&R executive who had the vision to support the grime community very early on, and bring many of its leading lights to Warner/Chappell.”

“This is also a great moment for Amber Davis, the A&R executive who had the vision to support the grime community very early on, and bring many of its leading lights to Warner/Chappell.”
Davis, who collected an MBW A&R Award for Hip-hop/Grime last year, signed both Skepta and Stormzy to Warner/Chappell before their respective recent album successes.
Added Platt, “I’d also like to congratulate the amazing Michael Kiwanuka and Dario Marianelli on this wonderful recognition of their gifted songwriting.
“Mike Smith and the whole UK team are doing fantastic work on behalf of our songwriters, and the diversity of these awards underscores our songwriters’ strength across all genres.”
Mike Smith, Managing Director of Warner/Chappell UK, said: “I’m so proud that Skepta has been named Songwriter of the Year at The Ivors.
“It’s well-deserved recognition for an artist and songwriter who spearheaded the development of the grime scene and marks a significant coming of age for the most exciting genre of music in Britain today.
“I also congratulate Michael Kiwanuka and Dario Marianelli who’ve been recognised today for their amazing talent.”
In addition to the above, Warner/Chappell songwiters recently won 18 ASCAP Pop Song Awards plus 17 BMI Pop Song Awards.
According to the latest Music & Copyright stats, Warner/Chappell was the only major publisher to increase global market share in 2016 on a revenue basis.
